Phyllis Wan focuses her practice on television programming, with particular emphasis on programming distribution and licensing agreements. She represents several multichannel video program distributors in their negotiations for cable, broadcast, video-on-demand, and broadband television content. She has extensive experience negotiating analog retransmission consent and digital signal carriage agreements with broadcast television stations and their affiliated networks. In addition to her distributor clients, Phyllis represents several start-up and emerging television programming services with high-definition television, music, and sports content.
Prior to her work in the television programming field, Phyllis developed significant experience in the area of employment law. Her clients included a National Basketball Association team and National Hockey League team and have included companies in industries such as aviation, computer software, and entertainment in a variety of advice, counsel, and litigation contexts.
Phyllis joined Hogan & Hartson in 1996 after practicing with the New York and Denver offices of a national law firm for five years.
In law school, Phyllis served as an associate editor of the Review of Law & Social Change. She was selected by the Denver Business Journal in 2003 as one of the city's "Forty Under 40" professionals for her business leadership, legal accomplishments, and community involvement. She was also honored with the Award For Distinguished Service from the Black, Latino, Asian Pacific-American (BLAPA) Law Alumni Association of her alma mater, New York University School of Law.
Representative Experience
Representation of several of the largest multi-channel systems operators in connection with their content distribution agreements with numerous programming networks, media groups, and broadcasters.
Representation of high-definition programming network, HDNet LLC, in connection with licensing its services, HDNet and HDNet Movies, to satellite, cable, and alternative technology distributors throughout the United States and Canada.
Representation of a top-five cable systems operator in connection with most of its network group retransmission consent agreements.
Representation of a sports programming service in connection with licensing its content to multichannel video program distributors.
