For more than 25 years, Hogan & Hartson has been working in the Middle East with clients involved in in-bound and out-bound transactions concerning the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America. Since 2005 alone, we have represented more than 50 clients located in 11 countries throughout the Middle East, and have advised in nearly 300 deals and transactions for those clients. In June 2008 Hogan & Hartson received approval from The Abu Dhabi Executive Council to open a law firm in the emirate.
Our current Middle East activities range from private equity and other investments, hotel development, energy and renewable energy projects, port and other infrastructure initiatives to strategic policy advice for governments. We act for a broad range of clients, including governments, developers, financial institutions, and banks.
We have a deep bench of lawyers with extensive, practical experience guiding how our corporate and government clients are structured and operate. One of our partners played a leading role in drafting the Exon-Florio amendment in 1988, while serving as Deputy General Counsel of the U.S. Treasury Department, and is ranked as a "CFIUS Expert" by
Chambers USA. Our ranks also include the former U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Under Secretary for Policy who coordinated the policy activities of the DOT from 2002 to early 2008, and in that capacity, worked with airlines and other companies throughout the transport sector as well as governments around the world.
Leadership experiences such as these and the firm's more than 100-year history operating at the intersection of business and government enable us to offer Middle East clients extensive experience and support in highly regulated and rapidly growing industries. Our capabilities in industries such as media, infrastructure, energy, construction, aerospace, and hospitality directly align with the needs of the region.
Our attorneys working in Abu Dhabi include native Arabic speakers. Their activities include private equity and other investments; government, construction, energy, and transportation; trade; telecom; hospitality; and intellectual property. In addition, we have continued our strategic alliance with The Law Firm of Salah Al-Hejailan, the oldest and largest law firm in Saudi Arabia. This alliance expands upon a professional relationship between both firms over many years. The combination of the experience and resources of the international practice of Hogan & Hartson, together with the local experience of The Law Firm of Salah Al-Hejailan, helps provide a strong platform for our clients throughout the region.
