Located principally in our Caracas, Miami, New York, and Washington, D.C. offices, Hogan & Hartson’s 35 Latin America lawyers and advisors possess a wide range of experience. From helping Fortune 500 corporations successfully complete mergers and acquisitions, to assisting Latin American state-owned entities form public-private partnerships and develop infrastructure projects; from providing legal knowledge to help family-owned and growing companies meet their daily business objectives, to working with international lending institutions and governments on trade and bilateral investment issues; we are committed to Latin America and the Caribbean. In fact, our lawyers are very capable of handling all aspects of major transactions in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, and English. We conduct due diligence investigations, draft project and financing documents, negotiate contracts, arbitrate, and litigate in all five languages. Additionally, our lawyers understand and are comfortable working in civil law jurisdictions.
Over the years, our lawyers and advisors have developed strong relationships in every Latin American country and most nations in the Caribbean, which in turn enhance the counsel we provide to our clients. Additionally, Hogan & Hartson is a member of the Pacific Rim Advisory Council, a non-exclusive network of leading law firms with offices in important business centers in Asia and Latin America, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Venezuela. We regularly interact with counsel in multiple jurisdictions in a single cross-border transaction, serving as primary counsel and assuming responsibility for all aspects of the transaction. We also have a team dedicated to representing clients in international arbitral proceedings and litigation pending in local courts in Latin America, as well as non-U.S. parties in U.S.-based litigation.
Additionally, our lawyers have extensive contact with international financial institutions, many of which are based in Washington, D.C., and several of our lawyers have previously worked at the Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) and Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). Finally, we have vast experience in representing governments and Latin American companies on trade and bilateral investment issues. We understand the underlying economic, business, and regulatory issues affecting the export of goods and services, as well as trade remedy and trade sanctions issues as they are applied by the United States and international trade organizations.
